mpeg/avi quality problems and linux software

I've been using Avidemux and dvdlab to put together and burn the movies I'm going to watch. Anyway, when I finally have the finished product and view, I can see that the picture is a little choppy. By that I mean I can see the little pixels when ever there is movement which is all the time. Is this something I can make look better or smooth out with software or is it the copy of the movie itself?

Best place for this is the avidemux2 forum.

It's this where you can do the smooth filters and such. Mean (the avidemux2 writer) will be able to offer the best advice
