moving hda3>hda1 repartition rh9

Ok the goal is to relocate the root partition, right now hda3, to hda1. Now the reason is that I found that lilo is getting cranky with not having 1 as the default partition. I looked at parted but found the whole thing a little scary as it does the work right then and there on command. This being my only OS and with no cdrom drive for backup; yeah it scares the null right out of me. what I was looking for is a way to move hda 3 to 1 or rename it. and maybe expand the partition to a larger size here is my df stdout

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 4948400 4030016 667016 86% /
none 63376 0 63376 0% /dev/shm

here is my fdisk p

Disk /dev/hda: 10.0 GB, 10056130560 bytes
240 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1299 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 15120 * 512 = 7741440 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 616 4656928+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 * 617 1281 5027400 83 Linux
/dev/hda4 1282 1298 128520 82 Linux swap

anyone have the best idea in the world??
