Mounting Win98 shares using SAMBA

I have searched, and searched, and searched...but I still have not found the solution...

The problem: I trying to mount Win98 share using:

smbmount //my_win_98/$C /mnt/shared
It promts my for a password...I enter the password

but I do get this error:

ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)
SMB connection failed

I have also tried:

smbmount //my_win_98/my_share /mnt/shared -o username=me, password=my_password, ip=192.168.0.1

I have used [smbclient -L my_win_98] to verify and I get this:

Sharename Type Comment
-------- ---- -------
$D Disk
$C Disk
PRINTER$ Disk
$EPSON Printer
$A Disk
IPC$ IPC Remote Inter Process Communication

Server Comment
--------- -------

Workgroup Master
--------- -------

The funny thing is I can browse my Linux share from my Win98 and WinNT machine; I can mount my WinNT share from my Linux; but I CANNOT mount my Win98 share from my Linux.

Whats going wrong here? Please help. I've been searching the internet for "ERRinvnetname" and anything I find seems to be solutions for things I've already done, like making sure I actually have the drived ShARED....

Thanks in advanced!

Try changing the share name of your Win98 drive to just "C" instead of "$C" because the "$" character in a share name has some special meaning to the SMB protocols...

This is just a wild guess, since I've not seen the problem you're having, but I usually see a "$"-adorned share in addition to the actual drive share, when I do smbclient -L on my 5-box system.
