Hey cool! Live post-season, no blackouts.

Oh crap! That means I really need to fix that multi-angle bug.

Maybe after a good long nap after today's game I might feel more up to looking at code.

Hopefully you didn't stare 5 minutes at the tigers dugout, before realizing that something was wrong. (Like I did)

SVN revision 214: Fixed the multiangle

Even with snot on the keyboard, I can't seem to turn away from a bug. Not literally, but that's how I feel.

As much as I'll miss watching Jim Leyland pick his teeth in HD, I found the domain-attribute for multiangle and was able to fix this with two lines of code.

But oh did I suffer for those two lines.....

Now I'm going to put the computer down and try to enjoy being sick as best as I can....hopefully with a Twins victory (to make roughing up Greinke worth it.)

i am confused -- with mlbviewer it looks like i am watching the tv feed. but with the official player i only see the angles.

from this thread (http://www.mlbsupport.com/forum/view...afd63981decf66) it appears that for the postseason everyone in the us is blacked out from the tv feed and only the angles are available.

so does that mean no mlbviewer for the post season? more deceptive practices from mlbam?

edit:

You can also watch the games as archives approximately 90 minutes after they are completed.

The only way to watch live games in the U.S. during the Postseason is through Postseason.TV, which has the multiple camera angles, not the television broadcast.

Bosox, I have an easy solution for you.
You could visit me here in Germany for the playoffs. No blackouts and the best beer you could dream of. Of course I'm a Yankees fan, so that might be a bummer.

well that sounds like a great idea, except i want to go to the games in boston (and in ny if things go as planned). so i might just take you up on that offer for the away games! so be expecting me for some octoberfest celebration!!

regarding my earlier post, it appears that this 9.99 package is just a mlbam scam. try to watch using the official player -- it is unwatchable.

so daftcat, i guess your off-season retirement can officially begin.......

I guess I'm not the only dimwit around, I did the same thing even though I had the game on the TV at the same time I was watching them screw around in the dugout. It took an out or so for me to realize what was going on.

Once again, great work daftcat. Hope you don't have the swine flu. A buddy of mine caught it and said he hasn't been that sick in years.

No swine flu! Just a real nasty cold. And I have a dance competition coming up this weekend too. It's going to suck if I have to go out there hopped up on Dayquil.

Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen with the post-season. Wait and see, ya know? I guess that's a whole 12 hours of waiting, right? I guess that's the only good thing about being sick is that I caught an awesome game today and I'll be home for the others tomorrow.

Looked into postseason.tv and it looks like a rip-off. Four to eight fixed, unsynchronized camera angles and rough and un-cut audio. It's like charging us $10 for the raw materials rather than the finished product. With the mlb.tv offering, we'll get access to the archives 90 min after game completion. You might be able to find sopcast feeds if you need to see it live though sopcast is generally very low bandwidth. I watched Greinke's last start at 112K with tvants (windows p2p) because it was national blackout. Maybe one of these years the networks will figure out they would probably pay more per broadcast than the average cable subscriber for the chance to see live postseason online. I'd pay $20 or $30 for the post-season if it was the real feed and not the edit room scraps.

By the way, by reverting the patch from yesterday (svn -r 213 up) you might be able to get the camera angles used in postseason.tv. This is probably not helpful since I don't have code to help you switch the angles. Further, if the angle chosen doesn't have audio, you may not have synchronized audio with a separate gameday audio instance. Something you can tinker with if you're really into that.

I currently have the press box view for the Phi-Col game by reverting yesterday's change. Makes me feel like I have nose bleed seats but at least I can watch the game live (and I'm not watching the dugouts pick their asses.)

Oh and it does have audio.

Okay, I can support Postseason.TV but it's not going to happen until next week. You won't have to send your $10 to MLB either. You might think about making a donation instead though. But I would encourage you to try it once I've released the patch, before you make the donation. Some of these camera jockeys just might be drunk and clueless. I can't tell you how many times the 1st base press box camera zoomed in on the second baseman's foot even while play action was occurring. I don't think these camera operators realize that their raw footage is being watched by those duped into paying MLBAM for the postseason package.

In the meantime, for those who want to get a little down and dirty with the test tools, you can try the following:

Code:
1. Find the event-id either using mlblistings.py or the 'z' screen.
2. Start test/stdout.py with the event-id and tee it to a file:

$ test/stdout.py 14-263147-2009-10-07 | tee content.log

3. Grep the content.log file for the string "content-id".

4. Try each of the content-id's until you find the angle you like. Some just won't work because of blackouts or other operator error.

$ test/stdout.py 14-263147-2009-10-07 MLB_FLASH_800K_STREAM 7017107
The second parameter "MLB_FLASH_800K_STREAM" is important and just use as is. That gives you the 800K, non-nexdef stream. You can use a similar approach with nexdef.py except your second parameter will be the content-id and you don't need to specify the stream type.

Code:
$ test/nexdef.py 14-263147-2009-10-07 7017107
In this case, I believe the stream speed defaults to 800K and you have to change the max_bps in line 433 of nexdef.py. Ooops! Sorry, the nexdef.py always starts from the beginning of the game rather than the current position but at least you can do that with nexdef.

By the way, that content-id is the home plate press box cam I'm watching right now for MIN-NYY game. Seems to be the least annoying of all the angles.

Anyway, the code I'm going to add is something like a camera number because I don't know anything about the cameras before I make the url request but I can tell the parse code to skip n-1 number of multi-angle listings where n is your camera number before returning the url back to the player. I'll just fork mlbviewer.py and put this into a postseason.py file.
