map "open link in new tab" modifier (Firefox)

I have many bindings on the control key. I cannot ctrl-click to open a new tab now. How do I change which modifier to use? I do not want to change the accelkey globally, only for opening a link in a new tab!

I have mine set up for middle click to open links in a new tab, I think that's the default.

can someone tell me what file(s) handle mouse shortcuts in /usr/lib/firefox. Middle click opens a new tab in mine too, but I'm used to ctrl-clicking.

I don't know what file is involved, but it's probably in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile> somewhere.
The setting for middle click in about:config is true or false.

replace event.ctrlKey with event.altKey in handleLinkClick(). you can use any of the DOM event attributes instead of altKey
Code:
 su - ; cd /usr/lib/firefox/chrome ;
 cp browser.jar browser.jar.bk ; unzip browser.jar ;
 vi content/browser/browser.js ; zip -r browser.jar content
make sure umask is 022 when you su to root
