I've been using Mandriva 2006 for some time, and only in the last few days I've been having problems with it.

Some programs silently fail to start, some suddenly disappear, and some run really slowly. Often while trying to start a program, the computer doesn't respond to any keystrokes, and is even hesitant about moving the cursor. It looks very much like the computer is too busy with a demanding process to be able to do anything else, but it is not doing anything demanding at all.

Running Ctrl+Esc (if it works at all) shows nothing using a singnificant amount of system resources, but obviously something is.

I had similar problems a while ago caused by Kat, which I uninstalled and everything worked well after that until now. Kat is not installed now, so that is not the problem this time.
