No internet under Mandriva LE 2005 or Mandriva 2006
Can somebody please help a Linux noob? I installed both Mandriva LE and Mandriva 2006 and both distros have an issue with my NIC and therefore I am unable to connect to the internet. I have the intel pro 1000 pl NIC and it uses the e1000 driver which mandriva refuses to recognize. I have tried everything and nothing works.
I was told this is an ongoing problem and I need to upgrade to kernel 2.6.16 to solve this problem, (current kernel 2.6.12) how can I update the kernel without connecting to the internet? I know nothing about compiling a new kernel so if someone could tell me where to get the precompiled updated kernel and how to install it that would be great.
Sorry, but you can't get the updated kernel without an internet connection. Try checking the Mandriva website - maybe they have something about where you can get kernel updates?
Sorry I should have been more specific. I have an internet connection unders Windows so is it not possible for me to download all the patches for the kernel and update through the Patch -p command?
Oh, well then you can just download the patches and put them on a USB drive (or just read them directly from the Windows partition, if it's mounted), copy them to your Linux partition, and apply them.
