make patch how-to

Dear all.

This is a "newbie learn to hack" question.

Suppose I have an original tarball, extracted on /home/src/aaaa-1.0
Then I copy it to a new directory, /home/src/aaaa-1.0.a.
I make some modification on several files under
/home/src/aaaa-1.0.a/src.

How can I make a patch file so somebody else
can simply patch the original code as:

patch -p1 < the_newbie.patch

Thanks.

Hi,

You can do it with:

# diff -Nur /home/src/aaaa-1.0 /home/src/aaaa-1.0.a > the_newbie.patch
