I've created an icon on my desktop labelled "KDevelop 3.0" which points to /usr/bin/gideon. After I move that icon into the position I want it, if I move my mouse over that icon, or if I click on anything within the desktop, including other icons, my computer completely freezes. I can't even switch to a virtual terminal to kill whatever process is out of control.
I'm running Mandrake 9.1 on a 1.6GHz P4 processor with 256MB of RAM.
To fix this problem you may have to take drastic action. If you delete /home/user/.kde then the next time you log in you will start with a brand new KDE. You will have lost all of your settings, icons, etc.
Sure this isnt a physical thing with your mouse? If the icon is on one edge of the desktop, or clicking gives your mouse more than it can take, could a failing mouse crash Linux?
