No. Gentoo is quite unlike Redhat. It is a source based distribution, meaning you compile everything from scratch. While this may sound hairy, it's not - it's just a matter of typing emerge programname and the program you want - and all dependencies - are downloaded, built and installed. Very neat.
The installer is quite unlike other ones though, and it does make you actually *do* things to get it installed. No harm in that, and it's a learning experience for most people.
