Im very new to sendmail. Im using sendmail 8.12.9 and when I send mail out to others such as hotmail and yahoo through my server, it gets put in the spam folders rather then in ther inbox ? Ive been searching alot for the things I need to change but not have much luck. Im using webmin and sendmail m4 to make changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi kitek

You may not be able to fix it, are you running your mail server from home with your IP address supplied by your Internet Service Provider ?

If this is the case mail servers normally do a reverse look up on the domain of email addresses, so

user@yourdomain.com resolves to your IP address

Your IP address resolves to your ISP

As the two don't match mail servers treat it as forged so it's tagged as spam

I have the same problem and unfortunately I don't think there's a fix

Thank you for your reply. That makes perfect sense. I knew it was something since I couldnt figure out a setting to change on this. wonder how a person would get a domain where it would reverse back to me ?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

You might want to try sending a test message to check-auth@verifier.port25.com

It is basically a service that will email you back telling if / why your message looks like spam.

Hope this helps,
Joe
