Lost the Fedora Core 6 Package Manager

I was reading/learning about FTP and I wanted to use the VSFTPD and experiment with it on my Fedora Core 6 machine.

Well, I usually use the Package Manager when installing rpm's, so I launched the Package Manager (Applications/Add Remove Applications) and removed other FTP sources (standard ftp, lftp, etc). Then an additional window came up where it instructed me that it had to resolve dependencies. I clicked continue and it seemed to delete all previous ftp issues.

Now, I do not have a (Add Remove Applications) option within the "Applications" button on the desktop.

Does anyone know how I can get this back?

Crap Crap Crap

I just tried to locate the executable for the package manager "pirut" and it is no longer there.

What do I do?

Simple solution would be to obtain and install an rpm package for pirut manually. See rpm.pbones.net or Fedora reposities for example.

EDIT: that of course works by double-clicking on the file, or running 'rpm' from the commandline.

Rather than removing stuff you would be better off just installing. If the package requires the removal of something, the package manager will let you know. When it tells you it is removing something, read very closely. Linux will allow you to do whatever you want. It does not matter if it will goof the system or not, it will follow your commands. This is both a strength and a weakness when compared to windows.

The base rpms are also on the install disk.
