I was installing Fedora Core 5 linux system in one of my workstation. I got no problem during the installation processes and got in to the system with no problem. However, I started to disappoint when I run those commands (at subject) the system says command not found even on to root. I've tried to install those commands with yum but still no avail.
Any thoughts where I can get and install those commands. I badly need it for updating a database. Thanks in advance.....
I believe you may need to install the findutils package, too. I remember during one Linux installation (may have been SuSe, but I don't remember) when I didn't install any of the findutils items and couldn't use locate or updatedb.
Hmmm.... locate and updatedb are UNIX standard commands, I believe also those are available by default in fedora and redhat as well. I have already tried those commands in fedora 3 and fedora 5. Yikes! it does not available on my fedora 5 at this time.
@alienux, may i know what are specific packages in findutils. I tried installing with yum.. This is my syntax correct me if I'm wrong... "yum install findutils"....
@nylex, yup, it seems working... however, when I tried to locate a certain files. It gives me this message "can not open '/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db'? How can I fix it? Thanks by the way....

Have you tried doing "updatedb" first and then looking for something. It could be that the database needed by mlocate may not yet have been created.

From past experience, not all Linux distros or Unix vendors install locate by default.
problem has been corrected after mlocate was installed. However, I got another problem, mondo will not work.. It says "mondoarchive: command not found". I was able to execute mondo-backup before. My last activity was updating the system with yum update command...
