I am running Kubuntu 7.10 and an HP Deskjet 5740 printer.
I have several PDF files that I have loaded into KPDF. All works great except for the printing. When I want to print. I set the printer in the normal fashion and send the file to the printer. The printer acts normal, loads a piece of paper, the active light flashes. After an initial several click, it just sets therefor a minute or so and then another click. When I turn the printer off, it shoots out a plank piece of paper.
When I go to "System Settings>jobs" for the printer, it reports a error in the file. I have no trouble in sending the Adobe file from "XP"
It may well just be a sad fact of life ... personally I don't
use KPDF, but there are occasionally pdfs that I can't print
using XPDF (most of the time it works a treat). You could
try printing with that (xpdf) or you could download & install
Adobe Acrobat for Linux and see whether printing works with
that one. If neither of them do the document may be plain
faulty - whether that's a means of preventing printing intended
by the author or not shall not be discussed here :}
Sometimes you can fix faulty pdfs up by letting pdf2ps loose
on them, and then converting the output of that back into a
PDF (or just printing the resulting PS file).
Thanks. "xpdf" doesn't recognize my printer, however by using kpdf I get the image I want, take a screeshot and save it as a bmp or jpeg I can use openOffics or gimp or even qcad to add stuff and/or print.
