Question kpdf menus and toolbars are gone

Thanks to all

No toolbars or menues in KPDF 4:3.5.5-3 or xpdf 3.01-9. I don't know when they disappered. I don't know if this is a configuration issue or a bug. They both open the files fine when pointed to through a gui file manager or called by a browser, but I can't print or select text ect ect ect. I did as much of a reinstall as I could because I am unwilling to uninstall cups to completely uninstall xpdf.

Debian Etch

I have a nother issue that I don't think is related, but. In Iceweasle my java script acts weird. sun-j2re1.5 is installed. If I disable java the links on google's main page work fine. If I go to "google video" I can't see or play the videos. If I reenable java, reload the page the video then plays but the links are dead again. Iceweasle is also not holding its configuration. If I want to have a "close button" on the tabs I have to reconfig the "tabbed browsing" and there gone again upon a relaunch of the browser. It also looses the text that is entered into the url box with a relaunch.

I don't have these problems with Opera although I have not been able to get it to play the videos, but that is not a big issue. I am most interested in solving the pdf issue and I don't know where to start to determine if this is a bug or a config issue.

Thanks
R

For xpdf (I don't use kpdf it's too slow and hate the integration into kde):
The main configuration file is in ~/.xpdfrc
Rename it to .bak and launch xpdf.

currently my .xpdfrc contains this:
Quote:
initialZoom page
The only thing that exist in xpdf is the bottomline:
The arrows for moving one page back and forward, a place where you can directly put the page number you want to jump to, the size, search and print.
There is no menu, no toolbar.

Thanks nx5000

Mine is in /etc/xpdf

After I posted I went looking online and the screenshots I found for xpdf show that it does't use menus, so I figured mine was normal. I still don't know how to select text in xpdf, but I got my menus back in kpdf.

Thanks to your help I found /home/dir/.kde/share/config/kpdfrc and it had a line to disable the menus. I set that to enable and my menus came back.

Thanks nx5000

Okay. Not sure if you saw the detail but:

Note that if ~/.xpdfrc exists, Xpdf will NOT read the systemconfiguration file /etc/xpdf/xpdfrc.

Like normal copy paste in linux:
select a zone of text with left button (it's 2 dimensionnal) to copy (the zone is in black WHEN you release the left button)
then for example, open an editor and press middle-button to paste
