I am new to Linux but I tried a couple of this to see it I can get it to Work. I tried to reinstall Fedora again but removing all partitions. Did not work. Also tried another HD. Did not work. I also tried to Play around in the Bios by changing some setting for example. I tried to change the pio mode and udma mode. Did not work. Checked to make sure my bios was up to date. It is. Don't know what else to do Please help.

I found a way to fix this incase anyone ever has this problem. I have a Asus p3v4x motherboard. My HD and dvd drive was in the same ide cable. Example HD was Master dvd drive was slave. After I change them to there own ide cable (Hd was master in IDE 0 and DVD drive was master in IDE 1) I was finally able to boot fedora core 3. Problem went away

You most likely need to create a new initrd file.
Using the Rescue CD

chroot /mnt/sysimage
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-1.667.img

A new initrd file is created and the system should hopefully boot successfully.

I'm having the same problem with Fedora 2. The odd thing is that I can install RH 6.1 OK.

Here is the message I get:

Fatal exception in interrupt
In interrupt handler - not syncing

Keying on the word "interrupt", I'm guessing it might be my CD drive. In any case, I'm going to be testing a lot of my peripherals today - apparently Fedora 2 doesn't like one of them!

The problem is solved.

I took out the CD (an 8x Mitsumi) and subsituted a 16x Generic, and everything booted up OK.

Maybe this is just a temporary solution, but I can now install Fedora.

Thanks, everybody, for all the advice!

kernel panic

I have found out that I have to put the command in at boot everytime before it will boot. Is there a way to get this to be a permanent change?
This is what I put in again "linux all-generic-ide irqpoll" The rest of the command is already in the line that I edit. I hit enter to update change but if I reboot then I have to enter this all over again. I would like to make the change permanent. Any suggestions???? Thanks

It depends on which boot loader do you use. If it's GRUB, edit the "/boot/grub/menu.list" and add you parameter at the end of the "kernel" line. If it's LILO, I don't remember exactly, Ibut I think it's a similar trick in the "/etc/lilo.conf".

Just a remark, FEDORA 3 he's very old (4 years!), the CORE 9 will be out soon. And unlike Microsoft software, you don't have to upgrade your hardware when you upgrade your software... The newest your linux is, the better it will recognize hardware.

I ran across this same issue with CentOS 5. I popped the case and found out there were 2 HD connected to same IDE both set on CS. Removed power to one HD and worked fine.
