k3b does this why?

I was experimenting with k3b(very nice interface). I tried to copy a data(not music) file to cdr, it worked very nice. When I tried to copy an additional file it would not let me, I needed to use a new cdr. I found a setting in there that will allow multipe burns of files at different times. My question, why would the default setting allow only one burn, then finalize the cd. Is their any reason for that? I understand audio cds sometimes need to be finalized to play, but why with data cds.

many cdroms will not be able to mount the disc if it is not finalized. open-session discs are primarily used only with cdrw drives. when you burn a data disc, or any disc for that matter, with k3b, it assumes you want a permanent data disc which has the most compatibility.

thanks, My assumption that only audio disks need finalizing must be false

I based my assumption on the fact windows let me copy data files to cd without finalixzing them. I don't even think it gave me an option to finalize.
