k3b and quicktime4linux

I'm trying to emerge k3b to see how it compares to xcdroast. Xcdroast takes so long to load...it's great once it's running...i am trying something else. One of the dependancies is quicktime for linux. While compiling this, I get this error:

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [i686/qtdump] Error 1

!!! ERROR: media-libs/quicktime4linux-1.5.5-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 29, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

I tried adjusting the use flags in make.conf and I get the same error. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? Thanks for the help.

q4l is not required for k3b. It might be for the DVD ripping capabilities to be better, but it's not required.

However, if you want to get it installed, see about looking at an older version, or a precompiled binary somewhere.

Cool

So how do I emerge it with gentoo? Portage sets it up as needing q4l in order to compile. THanks for the help.

I don't know what to change in my use flags to make it work. I have the default flags.

well if you don't want to use quicktime, then -quicktime would be the use flag to set i guess. check the full list of valid flags at gentoo.org to check

Yup that did it thanks. Quicktime isn't on the official list of use flags. But I've seen examples with jpilot on flags and other things. I don't get it. ANyways its pluggin away quite happily now. Thanks alot.
