need to install quicktime4linux

Can anyone help, I want to install quicktime4 linux so I downloaded the tar file, opened it up and read the README file (below) I'll let you read the whole README file, my question is below. My distro is mandrake 9.1

Quicktime for Linux

by

Heroine Virtual Ltd. (Motion picture solutions for Linux)
Send harrassment to: broadcast@earthling.net
Homepage: heroinewarrior.com/quicktime
Requires libmpeg3 from heroinewarrior.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a Quicktime front end for UNIX in a library.

Building:
Quicktime for Linux requires a built copy of of libmpeg3 in a directory next to itself.
This is used for the mp3 interface.

Your directory structure should thus be:
/my_directory
/my_directory/libmpeg3-*.*.*
/my_directory/quicktime4linux-*.*.*

type "make" in the libmpeg3 directory.
type "make" in the quicktime directory.
type "make util" to get quicktime to build some utilities.

The makefiles automatically configure themselves. The library is in
i686/libquicktime.a. You should manually set the CFLAGS environment
variable with the optimum optimization parameters for your i686
derivative.

#######################################################################

me again, I made the libmpeg3-2.0.0 directory as instructed (the other directory was named quicktime4linux-2.0.0)

1- what do I put into the libmpeg3-2.0.0 directory? Anything.? when I type make inthat directory I just get various error messages - no target

2- I wnet ahead and typed make inthe qkuicktime4linux directory and things happened, but I could see reference to pointing device errors. Too much output to print here.

3- I cannot find any binary files to run quicktime.

4- my quess is that the priblem lies in what i am to include in the libmpeg3 directory.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Scott

I have installed xine then the plug-in rpm for xine. Now I see my real problem, I don't know have to get the xine and the xine plug-in acutally plugged into mozilla1.6. I have got realplayer 9although it doesn't allways work) and flashplayer and java re plugged in , but how do I plug in xine. I can't find instructions anywhere.

Thanks for you patience with a bit of a dumb question.
