Sorry Elektro, sorry GregLee

All I do is keep on apologizing at the moment. Please believe me when I say I am in terrible pain at the moment.
My back has caused me so many employment problems that Linux has become my life.
Get even more frustrated when I can't sit at the computer working!!

Anyway, I have a few more questions. When making the boot DVD/Cd you need to include the boot information - that much I have understood.

I have been doing more research and found a link on Mandriva for building your own boot DVD/CD. The code they give to build the image needs own personal links. I get lost doing such things. Can you have a look at the website and give me a hypothetical scenario of how you would go about the project creating possible links and where.

It is the path/to/ that I am unsure of. Give me suggestions.

The other thing is that I found another Mandriva link that talks about the "floppy disk install images dropped" follow this link and have a look for me:

It points towards using a boot cd image. This image can be found in the image file under install. I use the following mirror for my most of my distros - it being pretty reliable:

There is three different types of image info there. I was wondering if the boot.iso could be the info I need to make my DVD bootable?

Can you have a look at the above links and give me some ideas.

As always. much appreciate any help I can get.

Hi again, well, I thought that I'd give a full account of what I did to solve my problem.

Ok I wanted to create a new Mandriva Powerpack+ 2007.1 dvd set.

I wanted to remove packages and add some of the new updates, whereby creating a newer off the shelf installation package dvd set.

In post 17 I gave website links that I wanted you to have a look at and give advice.

I am not complaining again - just that I carried on researching while waiting for some response to my plee.

The second website gave info about dropping the boot disks option to an install. It did, however, give info about boot images that were included in Mandriva's package.

I first looked at the distribution and update site "Sunet" which many use in Sweden. I found by choosing i586 and opening the install folder there was several boot options. These are actually included on the DVD's.

I looked at the boot info and chose "cdrom.img" for a test.
I opened k3b and chose a new project. I then looked in the project list for "edit boot image" and added my boot "cdrom.img" to my project.

I then used drag and drop to add my folders (now updated) from a folder I created when copying them onto the computer from my DVD's.

The boot image should be first in the list. I then chose to create the image ( image only). Once this was completed I could add the new compilation to a DVD.

The DVD booted as it should and I could install my updated version of Mandriva Powerpack+ 2007.1.

I did, however, need to remove a few language packages, so that there was enough room on a 4.7 GB DVD.

One of course can use a larger DVD, but I wont be using a thousand and one languages, so I opted to remove a few of them.

I have researched a little more and found that most of the linux distros have this boot info somewhere included in the files.

I hope you don't think I am trying to tell you all how to suck eggs - just thought that there might be some less fortunates ( brain capacity Ha,Ha) like me that would find this info useful.

update

Well, as some of you might have guessed - I have had a little set back. The info in my last post is valid up to a point. I forgot that there must be some kind of register that needs updating if you are changing packages?
Is there anybody that knows something about that? What do the developers do? They must have some kind of program that can update the register automatically instead of doing it by hand?
Appreciate some thoughts on this.

How to open and amend hdlist_main.cz

Hi again, I realize that I must amend the hdlists in order to have the right information for my install. Does anyone know how to open them?

Hi again. I am getting a little ahead of myself. I have noticed that the info that is available by the following link is a little incomplete. Just wondering if we can, I mean the big WE, work out how to add the missing info.

They talk about editing files if you want to reduce the size of your proposed DVD, but they don't say anything about how to add the updates available and the right hdlists/synthesis lists etc.

When I looked at what is available at Sunet:

I could see in the media_info folder info about the updates as follows synthesis.hdlist_main_updates.cz and hdlist_main_updates.cz. What I was wondering is this do I add those update lists to the media_info folder and mention them in the hdlist to make my boot DVD work instead of getting stuck att every new package?

update

Well, this thread seems to have died a death?!! I think it is a shame to come so far without completing the project. But what the heck - there are other projects to work with.

video_ts files

Hi again, trying to work out whether k3b can convert video_ts files? I am trying to convert them so I can have them in my collection for my Linuxmce.

I know that nero vision express can combine them to one video, just wondered if k3b could do the same.
