Sure! Find your java install directory:
whereis java

And then, in there you should find a plugins directory. You should copy the .so file (in the ns6 or higher, ns6 stands for netscape6, netscape plugins are compatible with mozilla..) from the correct directory to your mozilla plugins directory, which is likely:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
But can be found with:
whereis mozilla

After you are all done, open up a browser and type in the url:
about:plugins
And see if it's now listed, and properly (not a bunch of ???? throughout the plugin listing).

Cool

Re: Java plugin

How to install java jre2-file.
Everything is done in a root console as root.
1 Check if you have java installed with command:

which java

if there is no java, you must have the jre2.4.0..... file downloades.
if you have , yopu most probably have to change the user's rights.

type chmod 755 jre2.4.4....bin

then type ./ jre2..bin
this unpacks the file

You have to read the disclaimer (go down with several enters until you are requested yes no

type jes

then you have the jre directory

then open the konqueror as root !!!!!!1

and select aspects split (two windows , the right window should have the dir /usr/bin

then on the left window go to the jre subdirectory jre2-.. /bin

in this bin directory you have the file "java"

Put your pointer on in and draw!!!!!!! it into the right /usr/bin
window. SElect make link.

thats it

check which java yiu have again by typing on the root console

which java

Enble java in the mozills prefs.
Enble java in the konquerot setup by enabling java

In the mozilla type: "about: plugins" and it should show the java plugins

Greetings from jackson

MasterC,

I just tried what you suggested as it seemed the easiest and more obvious way to address my problem (I have been running RH9 for nearly a week now - the first five days was trying to configure my modem - easy suits me best right now).

Ta-da! I check the about plugins link in my browser and there's a lovely long list of Java types enabled. Great.

I click to the page I have been trying to load (internet banking - there used to be a cyan puzzle piece where there should've been an applet), and Mozilla disappears.

Any ideas?

Boo-yaa!

Nailed it! I've spent hours today trying to fathom it but there at last.
Searching high and low, through fora, URLs, google etc., trying everybody's different ideas for solving the prob with java function.

If you are still trying to sort this, then look here

http://members.rogers.com/ctmlinux/software.html#java

and scroll down page to java section. I am a week old n00b to RH & Linux, so complicated command lines and esoteric suggestions were a real bamboozler to me. This cuts to the chase. If you can understand how and where to download and unpackage stuff, then this article will tell you, in very clear instruction, how to create a 'link' which allows the browser software to see the plugin.
