java compiler


hey guys
running mandrake 10.2 on laptop
and since it didn't come with a java compiler just wondering

??? HOW DO I INSTALL IT!!!! ???

sorry i am kinda being stupid but i am really clueless
please can someone give me a step by step run through
of how to aquire and install the java compiler

oh and i think the compiler is "javac" cause i used it in fedore 3.

Download the rpm from Sun's site (choose the Kava sdk 1.4.2_08):
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

If you get the rpm, install with "rpm -ivh name_of_rpm" after you switch to superuser.

thanks dude
i got confused and though it was really hard cause i downloaded gccjava from the gnu website
i'll reply back if i get it working right

Download the latest rpm from java.sun.com, I think its version 1.5 and the filename ends with rpm.bin (self extracting rpm). You can also search specifically for a Mandrake rpm from Mandrake third party rpm repositories.
