Is there a service or daemon that will automatically mount my removable media?

I'd like my computer to automatically mount CD's, floppys, and Zip's when I insert them and then unmount them when they are ejected. is there a service or a daemon that will scan removable media in /etc/fstab and mount/umount them automatically?

Yes, although what it's called will depend on your kernel version.

Recent kernels use autofs, older ones use amd (the automounter daemon). Both of these need support in the form of kernel modules, which seem to be compiled into most kernels.

e.g. SuSE 9.1 has autofs set up, and my SuSE kernel is configured with:
Code:
zgrep -i AUTOFS /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_AUTOFS_FS=m
CONFIG_AUTOFS4_FS=m
