Is there a CLI Instant Messnger that does not require X

I was just wondering, is there a command line instant messenger client that does not require X?

This would be good for using a box that does not have X installed. I see it as a way to reach out to others for help if needed, but I also see it as a potential security risk.

Anyone ever heard of anything like that?

Excellent. I migrated away from pidget to kopete because of the lack of Yahoo support when yahoo changed their authentication methods. Since then I forgot all about finch. Thanks for the reminder and reply.

I believe (but I've not verified this) that emacs can support instant messaging.
