Iptables Tutorial

I'm fed up to the teeth with trying to figure out how iptables really works, or how any firewall works for that matter. Somehow I accidentally got the best policy ever, I had all of my ports not visible to anyone, etc etc but I just HAD to go and play more and now they are ALL OPEN....

Can someone please send me to a layman's tutorial of iptables, and fwbuilder (an iptables GUI) so that I can get what I had back

Hi, this is a simple iptables firewall script for a desktop machine, you may want to check it out and modify it for your purposes:

www.sipos-software.com/max/doc/rc.firewall

You may want to eliminate the line for ssh if you're not using it.
