Internal Modem on Linux

Is there an internal modem that is easy to get working on Linux? I have a Lucent softmodem that seems impossible to use on Linux.

http://www.linmodems.org/ is the main project for configuring internal PCI modems under Linux which lists supported devices + chipsets. You're often going to encounter problems though, and ideally it's recommended to use an external serial modem rather than PCI modem. Also, maybe check out the HCL on this site to see if any members have tried + tested PCI modems and have included configuration instructions.
