If you'd like to compile from source in SuSE 9.1 you'll need a compiler to do so.
First go to
ftp://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586
Find the packages: glibc-devel-2.3.3-98.i586.rpm and glibc-2.3.3-98.i586.rpm
Install these with YaST and their dependencies.
Next install package: gcc-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm and any dependencies it may have.
You will also, need MAKE.
Install packages: makedev-2.6-403.i586.rpm and makedev-2.6-403.i586.rpm and
make-3.80-184.i586.rpm
You may want a C++ complier as well
First install packages: libstdc++-devel-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm and libstdc++-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
Next install package: gcc-c++-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
That should be it.
Good luck,
Mike
