installing the c++ compiler

I am in need of installing the c++ compiler for Red Hat linux, but I am unsure on how to do this. I was under the assumption that it is installed by default during the installation process. How do I go about installing the c++ compiler? Also, how can I get the /usr/src directory show my current version of linux or a symbolic link to do the same? Thanks for any help you may have!

You're sure it is not on there? Type g++ and see if that yields anything. If not I think that RH9 has an Add/Remove Programs type program. You could add it using that if you have the CDs. If you want to see what version of the kernel you are using you could type in uname -a .
