Unhappy Installing blackbox on KDE at uni

Well, so far i've run:
./configure --enable-kde
make

with no problems. But when i try to run:
make install
I hit a brick wall. The uni has made the usr/bin area read-only (for obvious reason, realy. Probably one of them is to stop people installing programs like blackbox )

Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew a way around this? I have seen a few people in the labs using blackbox, so i'm certain there's a way. if all else fails, i will ask them. But Software Engineering students are notorious snobs so if I can get a faster and more indepth answer here, i'd be very greatfull.

Incidently, i'm fairly new to linux, kde, etc. So, whilst i'm not a complete moron, it's probably a good idea to treat me like one.

Thanks,
Drauken.

well you'd just install it into your home directory.... recompile it with "./configure --prefix=/home/you" etc...

and your uni won't have made /usr/bin read only to non root users... it's *ALWAYS* read only to non root users.
