Installing alternate version of gcc from source -- any tips?
Hello,
I have a version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 WS with gcc 3.4.3 on it. A new software tool our developers need to compile requires gcc 4.2.3. I'm moderately experienced with Linux, but have had bad experience in the past trying to "upgrade" compilers. I'd like to do so without hosing things up completely. If anyone has tips on how to do this cleanly from source I'd appreciate the input. I searched before posting but none of the hits seemed to apply to my exact situation. Thanks for any input.
