IEEE 1394 for Linux


does anyone know how to replace the IEEE 1394 drivers. Im trying to do this so that i can run my iPod using firewire but im not having much luck! i was trying to use this guide but the link that this guide gives to the new IEEE 1394 drivers doesnt exist anymore and it links me to this page which just confuses me and i dont know what to do!
can anyone help me, PLEASE !...........

Edit: When i run '/sbin/modprobe ieee1394' i get this error:

[root@myroom linux-2.4.19]# /sbin/modprobe ieee1394
FATAL: Module ieee1394 not found.

and i cant work out what to do !
i need ieee1394 and i cant work out how to get it !

& http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HARDWARE-HOWTO/index.html look for poratble
devices for compatibilty & howto . suggest expanding each section,subsection for further detailed information. it is quite extensive.
