I cannot think of a way like what you are trying to do. I was thinking back in my rhost and tape backup days. That may be a start for you. My only easy solution ( if both machines are Linux based) is using something like k3b to create an iso image then copy the iso to the remote machine and using k3b to burn the iso image to disk. Same can apply if OSes are different as long as ISO is standard. Another thought I had was there is packet writing in the kernel. It usually has to be compiled in. I have never tried it. Google around and see what might come up. Search around here as well.

Oh I thought he might have meant writing to a cdrw drive. Yes sharing the mount point of a cdrom is all is needed to be a share on nfs. Depending on settings one may have to umount the nfs share then remount it if contents are not updated.

If what to use several cdroms at once then copy an ISO of the cd and mount the iso just like a drive. Lots of info here on mounting ISO. Then share those points or do it this way. Create a directory called cd_iso. Then in it create a directory to each cd iso you need like mkdir cd1, mkdir cd2, ..... So mount each ISO to its own directory /cd_iso/cd1, /cd_iso/cd2,..... Now just share the /cd_iso directory. Lots of cds with one share.

Sorry for the confusion about the post.
