How to output sound from both mic1 and mic2 at the same time?

I have decided to hook up xbox 360 to my sound system. Since it is right next to my laptop, I thought I would buy 2xRCA(female)->3.5"(male) adapter and plug it into mic slot, so I can adjust capture volume and use it with headphones.

In a nutshell, here's the diagram:
Code:
| Input <- 3.5 <- 2xRCA (left and right) <- Xbox
| Output -> Sound system
I've brought the adapter home, plugged it in and it all worked. Until I decided to test left and right channels independently, that is.

Strangest thing, one channel seems to be recognized as 'Mic1', other as 'Mic2'. I can jump between them and hear sound coming from either left or right.

Any way to combine both 'Mics' into one stereo channel? I've done my googling, but to no avail.

Why do you put it into the MIC input?

The Y-pug that you have bought is for combining signals on the LINE level to one stereo signal. LINE IN on you sound card is stereo.

On the other hand, MIC in is usually mono (I think) and it seems that what usually is left/right on a stereo plug is MIC1 and MIC2 on a MIC input.

I can hardly imagine that XBox output level is too low for LINE. Have you tried to put the signal into your LINE IN?
