Question how to create shortcuts in desk top


hi

i want to create shortcuts to some of the file. how can i do it.
i am new to linux , i used to create shortcuts easily in windows.
please help me

You can create symlinks files as a shortcut to another file on your desktop, but that is a little too command-line-ish to make much sense. It is possible though. Anyway, tell us what window manager (KDE, GNOME, IceWM, Fluxbox) you are using, and what version it is and we can help you out a little bit better.

Did you right click on the desktop and see what the menu says, I havent used kde for a while so i forgot but i remember its easier than gnome (what i use now) or did you try to drag an icon to the desktop and get a menu option to copy, move, or link?
