Question How To Configure SuSE8.2 Proff ed boot screen?

Good Day,

I have been lurking around on this forum for a few weeks now, and the atmosphere created by members posting here let me to setting linuxquestions.org as my default browser window

With that said, I would apreciate it if you could answer the following few questions (I am running SuSE8.2 Pro Ed as indicated in the subject field). English is not my first language so please excuse spelling or grammer faults.

1. How can I turn of the default blue boot screen that has that white progress indicator, without having to select 'Verbose' in the boot menu manually everytime I boot? I would like to see boot loading splash screen that is white text on a black baground.

2. If it is possible to get the black screen with lots of verbose info in white text as the system boots, can one select your resolution and refresh rate? The reason for this is that I sometimes have to boot only into run level 3, and then work on a display that is 1024 * 768 at 60Hz (my eyesight is not to well and I struggle to read the fonts, plus the 60Hz is not helping much either - Hate the red eye it invokes )

Below is a listing of my hardware that I thought might be needed in order to assist me.

My hardware:
===========

ASUS KT400 MB
AMD 2600 XP+
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
LG Electronics Flatron 795FT Plus

Thanks In Advance,
Dwargoth

Excellent it fixed the silent boot screen into a verbose one, however it is still running 1024 x 768 resolution at 60Hz. Is there a way to adjust that setting?
