There is a pair of programs called
1. ppmtowinicon
2. winicontoppm

I can't say for your os, but in Redhat this is the package...
$ rpm -qf /usr/bin/ppmtowinicon
netpbm-progs-10.25-2.EL4.2

Aaargh There ain't no thing in the world that's "not working". - Instead, please be more specific: "I was using application that1 (version), did that2 (steps), expected these3 results, but the application returned that4 (literal error message / list of options presented vs. option needed / etc.)

- Just as a guess, ICO files can store images in coexisting sizes, i.e., 16x16, 32x32. And I'm not sure how GIMP handles this with existing ICO files. At any rate, you can create any image, and then store it as *.ICO with the GIMP.

i'm sorry, i've should of mentioned that before.

I tried using gimp before, but that's the only thing I've used to try and read the file so far. I'm not familiar with .ico files

I will try the program suggestions randyding mentioned and report back.

FYI:
Code:
sudo apt-get install netpbm
...is what you need to install to get ppmtowinicon for Kubuntu.
