help me install synaptic


hi,

after ecountering so many problems regarding software packages installation in my Xandros 3.0 box and upon heard synaptic is so good, i decided to give it a shot. i found the synaptic-0.56.1 package online and uncompressed on my harddisk, but i'm having problem to correctly configure it.

Since Xandros is Debian-based, can't you just apt-get it?
I believe you would just type this in the terminal console:

su
[root password]
apt-get update
apt-get install synaptic

Am I wrong?
