HI, I am running Linux Mint (Maya), with Wine installed and VirtualBox with WinXPPro. I have not been able to get my magicjack working in any environment but have seen some good reviews for GVJack. Excited I looked for it only to find out it is strictly for the Windoze platform. Does anyone know if it will work under Wine as I hate to have to keep a virtualbox running all the time. If it will run under Wine, how hard is this to accomplish? Thanks in advance to any who may read and answer.
Thanks for the response, but I would like to get away from majicjack (the company) due to their poor customer service and lack of support. The threads I read on recycling the magicjack with GV Jack software were very appealing (with the Windoze exception.)
There may be a way but I have not heard of it yet to use it in linux. To use it under linux with a virtual machine running windows seems to be a very round about way.
Are you talking about using Google Voice or using MagicJack?
I use Ooma and so far I love it but I don't own stock in the company or even get a free minute or cent.
Jefro, GV jack uses "recycled/expired" magicjacks to operate as they normally would only via their software and Google Voice (GV). However, their sole platform is Windoze, hence my question if anyone had used this combination successfully under Wine. My apologies for not making my question clearer but I am somewhat "Googled/Forumed" out tryhing to find a solution without disturbing anyone else.
Jefro, I am trying. I am confident the answer is out there, just struggling to find it. Should this happen, I will definitely post the results as I am sure I am not the only one seeking.
The only solution (comparable to magicjack) I have found so far was GV Jack. It seemed to be exactly what I needed until I saw it was only for Windoze. Of course, everyone "Google's" differently so I will keep trying. Thank you for your continued interest.
I have MJ haven't found a solution for it, I have Google voice also which IMHO is better, because I can forward it to my house phone(MJ) or my cell phone without the need for additional software. As far as the Gvjack it sounds good but no matter how I Google it doesn't show any info for linux. When I Gooogle for linux support there's a refernce to it & nothing shows but windows drivers.
All in all until a solution comes up GV works & is also free, although the cell is not.
I do have a family member that is using their GV to ring their computer, but I think it's an imac or an ibook & I will inquire as to how they have it setup.
I really needed to use this to cut down on my burgeoning cell minutes. Seems that with all the replies that I may have to wait or find another solution. Still determined not to return to Windoze. Thanks to all who posted in this thread.

I have a windows machine that I never cut off for the purpose of having my MJ. I just changed it to never sleep & I never log out, just select "Switch User". You don't need a lot of memory for that.
It was my work around until there is a solution other than upgrading to MJ-plus
For the specific question whether GVJack works in Linux, haven't tried as, although I dual boot windows8/Linux, I don't currently have wine installed. But this I know: any majicJack will work to make and receive googlevoice calls through chrome browser. Just install the free google voice plug in for gmail and plug in majicjack and adjust the "chat settings". all for free, but you will be tied to the computer b/c the phone dialer is nonfunctioning on the handset also you will not have ring through option. If you want to pay the 12.95 you get the no brains approach of a handset that you simply pickup and dial with call waiting and voicemail option plus I think 411/911. Its only one time fee so probably worth it for some but if you are looking for temp fix or don't mind being tied to the computer free is fine. You simply use the gmail dialer for making/receiving call like normal and pick up the receiver and good to go both windows or Linux, for FREE
