gprof and -pg(profiling): does it affect the speed of your application?

Hello there, I just would like to confirm if the -pg option, which would allow you to get the stats and profile of your application, will affect the speed of your application. In addition, does gprof only profiles the main function? I included a -pg in my makefile which creates a shared library (.so) but when I checked the output of the gprof, it didn't gave me details of the functions inside my program. The % time column all showed 0%. Thanks!

Now I know why gprof only profiles the main thread in my application, because it's a f*cking multi-threaded application. I found a piece of code here -> http://sam.zoy.org/writings/programming/gprof.html that could help me solve my problem. Hope this helps to those who have the same problem with me. (Second question answered, hope someone could answer my first one)
