Application to know my dial-up connection speed?

is there anyway that i can now as to what speeds i m connecting at when i dial to my ISP. what wvdial shows is 115200 which certainly is serial port speed but what i want to know is speed of downloads and uploads. something like what you see when you connect with Windows which tells you 50.6KB or 51.2KB or stuff like that.
is it possible? i searched through but no solutions.
thanx for reading.

There's a lot of site which provides such services on the net... for example: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/bandwidth.asp
or search google "bandwidth test"

thanx for reply but seems like i cdn't make myself clear. what i want is a program that tells me what speed i have connected at every time i dial to my ISP. similar to what happens in Windows, like you come to know that you've been connected at 50.6kbps, 51.2kbps...stuff like that.
sometimes i connect at really pathetic speeds and i like to disconnect and connect again. now going to a site and checking my bandwidth, then disconnecting and connecting again...it will be really painful. so is there some app that works like that we see in Windows?

For that 2 solutions, either you developp your own applications (here is a link about bandwidth measurement algorithms) or you can have a look at this project
Hope this help you
