Googlemaps on Firefox is broken

Hi,
For a few weeks I've had a problem with Linux completely freezing.
Caused when I move around Googlemaps satellite or street view using the Firefox browser.
Doesn't happen in Opera or Google Chrome.
Doesn't happen in OpenBSD
using Devuan Linux, Firefox 58.0.2

It sounds like it's firefox. Maybe you need the 64-bit version. Also, try disabling all add-ons.

could also be a performance bottleneck.
depending on your GPU, on devuan you might not have any hardware accelaration at all.

also, isn't ff 58 still some sort of beta/nightly?

also, opera and chrome on devuan? that's just so inconsistent...

Two suggestions:

Try starting Firefox from the command line. Maybe it will throw some helpful error messages to the terminal.

Try running top or htop in a terminal while you are browsing with Firefox and watching the memory usage.

Yep should have tried a bit more testing

and the cred goes to ondoho

version 58 is the version offered by mozilla.org to download
so I assume it is stable, but I'll say it's not perfect for me.

But going back to the esr v52 which came with Devuan - problem gone.

thanks guys

I just looked at Jacobs Well AU in Google maps with Firefox 58.0.2; seems like a nice spot!

It's more likely a problem between my system and libraries installed with firefox
as I said in my previous reply - it's not perfect for me
yeah it's a nice place, not too many trolls

I've gotten much better Firefox support on their own fora.

'not too many trolls'
Not even under the bridges? With all that water, I'd expect a lot.
