Unhappy Gnome sound events problem...

Hello

I'm running Fedora Core 3 /w Gnome and I have "sounds for events" and "enable sound server startup" enabled so that I can hear sounds when I open/close windows and do other things. The problem is that each time the event makes a sound, it does it 3-4 times which is just plain annoying and I have no idea how to make it only play each event sound once. Anyone have a suggestion here please?. This would be a vanilla install on an AMD 2600MHZ machine.

Thank's
