Gnome 3, Mutter, Nvidia, LibreOffice Writer screen refresh problem
I am running Gnome 3 under Fedora 15 on a Lenovo T61, using the Nvidia driver from Rpmfusion.
Using the default display manager, which I believe is Mutter, I see screen refresh errors when editing documents in LibreOffice Writer. Typically, some garbage is left on-screen at the right side of an edited line if, for example, I delete some characters from the middle of the line. The text after the point of edit can become quite badly garbled, making the job of revising documents very difficult.
If I switch off Mutter, by navigating to System Settings/System Info/Graphics and setting Forced Fallback Mode to 'On', the screen refresh works fine.
Under Fedora 14, using Compiz, I had identical display refresh errors when editing an OpenOffice Writer document. The fix then was to edit the Compiz settings, to enable the module 'Workarounds'. I cannot find any equivalent option with my current system.
Is there a way I can fix this? Edit some Mutter settings, perhaps? Is the problem with FC15, or is it Gnome 3, or perhaps the proprietary Nvidia driver?
I'm not really sure where to start with this problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: I just fired up gconf-editor. Under /desktop/gnome/session/required-components, I see 'Name: windowmanager, Value: compiz-gtk'. That makes me wonder whether I am wrong about Mutter being involved, although my Googling turned up numerous references to Mutter being the Gnome 3 compositing window manager. Now I am really confused "8-\
