gFTP wont connect to anything


i dont think it could be my setup, i havent put up any firewalls or anything

but hey i could be wrong...everytime i try to connect to a ftp site it says im not welcome on the server

can you ping the server? What do you get when you do:

telnet server.com 21

Do you see a FTP banner?

its actually a buddy of mines ftp server, but i tried connecting to a bookmark in gFTP and it wouldnt connect either

i cant ping his server, but i can ping google and such so i know im getting a connection somewhere, i just dont know why im gettin refused

You should be able to ping his address, if you are not getting a reply then:
- either he's configured his firewall to deny pings or
- he's not online

Try connecting in shell via:
ftp server

also, ask your friend if he is running a server on a different port than standard (which is 21)

that was my first attempt to log in
i did
ftp
open
address


when that got refused i went to gFTP

hes using 21

Can you connect to other ftp servers? Say ftp.slackware.com?

Sounds like your friends house is offline or his ftp server not running.

When you say, "it says im not welcome on the server" did you get "Connection Refused" or do get a banner indicaticing you are being blocked for some reason or another?
