gentoo portage problem!!!


hello im a gentoo user i just bought a new laptop i was installing gentoo all went fine till the point that i did emerge xorg-x11 i went to sleep when i woke up i saw an error

problem in x11-base/xorg-x11 dependencies
dictionary update sequence element #2 has lenght 1 :2 required exceptions

traceback (most recent call last):

gives errors in
/usr/bin/emerge
portage.py
flat_hash.py
then

ValueError: dictionary update sequence elemnt #2 has lenght 1 2 is required


now i cant emerge anything all gives me the same error plz help me

I had the same thing happen a few days ago using the Gentoo GUI installer. Did you use one of the installers? I think that they still don't work. There is a step by step instruction for doing a stage 3 installation by hand at the Gentoo web site. I believe that it is the only reliable way to install Gentoo. You still need to boot a live CD so you can use the Gentoo live cd. Then you have to open a terminal window, enter sudo su -, and then follow the instructions for a manual stage 3 installation.
