Gaim connection problem

With No proxy setting and yahoo protocol, gaim goes on connecting for a long time. Will there be any problem in my settings? im behind a proxy i guess, but i dont have access to yahoo messenger. Can i use no proxy setting for this?
I checked with valid userid which have access, but an error occurs. It says
" proxy server forbids port 5050 tunnelling". I have used port 8080... can anyone pl help me?

If you are behind a proxy server, you will need to pass your proxy settings to Gaim, otherwise it won't be able to connect.

it gives an error even with valid proxy setting? can u pl check my previous post, i have edited it.

5050 is the multimedia conference control tool. From Googling for "gaim 5050 tunneling" it would appear that you are not alone. You need to have 5050 opened on the firewall.

can i use other than 5050 or is it fixed?

From the little reading I did, it seems that it is not changeable. But I didn't delve terribly deeply, so I could be wrong.
