In gaim there is an account editor, use it to modify your account. Then select the option "Show more options" and the proxy configuration will appear. I guess the better way is to leave to "Use Global Proxy Settings" and define in bash the var http_proxy="your proxyort used" ...

When you set use global options the gaim will get the enviroment proxy used.

the var http_proxy isa a variable that can be set in .bashrc, that is used by several programs to direct to proxy, like lynx or wget ...

To use it insert in ~/.bashrc on line like:
export http_proxy=your.proxy.com:8080

ramu_ak,

I believe vladkrack is talking about the environment variable. You can see what variable are set by typing "set" in a terminal window. To set this variable do the following:

export http_proxy=your.proxy: port

to make this global, place this line at the end of your $HOME/.bashrc file.

I hope this helps. vladkrack, if I am wrong please let us both know. I am no where near an expert.
