fluxbox install


I have install fluxbox using
./configure --enable-gnome;make;make install
Then i try switchdesk but it is not there. i tried the binary fluxbox and it says
Failed to read: session.tabs
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.slitlistFile
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.groupFile
Setting default value
Failed to load groupfile:
BScreen::BScreen: an error occured while querying the X server.
another window manager is already running on display :0.0.
Blackbox::Blackbox: no managable screens found, aborting
Fluxbox: Unknown error.
i get out of X and it says i need to be in X what do i do?
I have rh9 and gnome.

I'm assuming it compiled correctly as you didn't mention errors. did you try to log out of your window session and log back in. See if it shows up in the session menu when trying to log back in.

Do you boot to runlevel 3 or 5? If you boot to 3 then you simply edit or create the .xinitrc file in your home directory. The contents of the .xinitrc file should be:

exec /path/to/fluxbox

Then when you log out and startx again you will be thrown into fluxbox.

I don't have a xinitrc anywhere i use redhat 9 and gnome as of now.
