sounds like you didn't su into root when trying to install. the default install directory for moz 1.5 is /usr/local which requires root permission to write to. type "su" (no quotes) in the command line and enter your root password before running the installer.

alright, now i opened up a terminal when i first did this and su-ed to root, can you tell me how to install it from that same terminal window?

just do what you did before when you got that can't create directory error.
cd to the extracted mozilla folder and then type "mozilla-installer". you shouldn't be doing anything different than before except for being su'ed as root.
