Talking sun Java

I am trying to install the sun jave jre. It is in a .bin format. I have run a chmod 777 on the file and tried to install the program. I have been unsuccessful so far. Any ideas how to accomplish this?
thanks Dan.

I installed the jre without any trouble (in slackware). Do you have the correct package for your system?
